Review of Memories of Murder (2003) by Cory B — 18 Jan 2010
A fine film from up-and-coming Korean director Bong-Joon Ho, who did the upcoming 'Mother,' Korea's entry for Best Foreign Film 2009. Everything I read says 'David Fincher must have seen this and decided to do Zodiac,' and I believe it.
Three main characters, who were quite characters themselves, try to solve a mystery that is tearing their lives apart. At first it's quite comical, but the desperation sets in for the characters and the viewer, and lead after lead, no suspect can be convicted.
An interesting look into Korean civil unrest in the late '80s and the Korean police hierarchy. An yes, it's completely an Asian Zodiac; and that's not a bad thing at all. Great epilogue, too.
