Review of Memories of Murder (2003) by Ollie W — 20 Oct 2010
Sharp writing, brilliant direction and a wonderful cast make Joon-ho Bong's senstional debut one the most memorable Korean films to date. Darker, more twisted and more slow burning than the excellent Monster-Movie-Mash-up "The Host" that later followed.
.. This is a stark and brutal portrayal of one of the most horrific unsolved cases in South Korea's history and also a touching social commentry on the failing military government and it's institutions.
Its also very very funny. A must see.
