The music, the costumes, the cinematography ... they're all stunningly beautiful! The actors are great as usual (Watanabe, Yeoh, and Zang are the best Asia has to offer and rank up there with the best of dramatic actors, in my opinion).
The only downside is what you see in the reviews, a lack of depth, maybe? That's not to say that we don't care about the actors or the outcome, but it could have been tied together better. The movie seemed to lose a little steam in the last 1/2 also but I didn't walk away feeling cheated or let down.
It was a nice story and a joy to watch.
