Review of Memento (2000) by Kyle R — 18 Jan 2013
The Nolan brothers bring to the table an entirely new and creative way to deliver one of their stories. The way the story is revealed also communicates with the audience immediately revealing to them that they will need to be engaged to truly experience the film. This really sets the tone well for any mystery-suspense film. The real beauty of the film is that the great acting, (particularly Guy Pearce) clever camera work, and puzzle like story makes the audience genuinely want to be engaged and figure out whats going on. This separates the film as a cut above most mystery-suspense films. Then instead of giving us a flat traditional ending, Nolan brings up the themes he has slowly been brewing throughout the film and completely reveals them at the end.
While I may not say this film is perfect, it sure does do a lot of things darn well!
