Review of Memento (2000) by Kelyn S — 12 Jan 2014
Greatest. Movie. Ever. No joke, this is the best movie of all time. You will never find a film film that is as creative, original, and exciting as Memento. Unlike most of the repetitive dribble churning out of Hollywood these days, Memento defies traditional concepts of film making.
The entire movie, shown in reverse order, is essentially a giant middle finger to all other so-called psychological dramas and surprise endings. From it's confusing start to it's surprising ending, you will be left with hundreds of questions and the desire to watch again and again.
The film launches us into the world of Leonard Shelby, an amnesiac looking to bring justice to his wife's murderers. Throughout the movie, we learn about the tragic circumstances behind his ailment and the daily struggles of an individual who's unable to form new memories.
Mr. Nolan does a fantastic job, offering a smorgasbord of emotions in this thriller. Action packed without being overindulgent, humorous without being corny, and depressing without drowning viewers in melancholy, Memento hits all the right notes.
Endlessly entertaining and endlessly debatable, Memento is a true masterpiece of cinema, and is the best film in Chris Nolan's incredible filmography. If you haven't seen it, WATCH IT. If you already have, WATCH IT AGAIN!
