Review of Melody (1971) by Arreis N — 21 Oct 2014
The movie is older than me. I can't get over the cuteness of both Mark Lester and Tracy Hyde, especially Lester with that innocent look (waif-look some may say). The movie makes me blush and it reminds you what does it feel like to fall in love for the first time - it feels so pure and as she catches you staring at her you feel shy then anxious and suddenly feel like you're over-the-moon as "Oliver" sings 'I'm so high, I swear I could fly'. But I admit that Lester looks a bit awkward right at the memorable cemetery scene, I was hoping he could appear to be more romantic but somehow successfully deliver the character by his main asset - his boyish and cuteness like his tone at the end of the sentence when he says "Look, if I dance with her, would you dance with her friend?" almost begging and pleasing at the same time. Also because of Bee Gees sweetening the scene with the song First of May. Ahh so sweet.
Overall, the movie takes you back to "that" moment - childhood crush and love.
