Review of Melinda and Melinda (2004) by Eyal D — 14 Feb 2009
I must admit that, as intended, the parallel stories of Melinda, one seen as tragedy and the other comedy, don't necessarily come off as planned, as they are both funny AND sad in their ways BUT a revisit to this lesser known Allen reveals a deeper, philosophical Allen cynically taking on life and dissecting relationships to their pragmatic existence.
M&M contains a top notch & mostly serious Allen script filled with insightful nuggets and features a superb performance from star Rhada Mitchell. Also pay attention how some of its themes and thoughts ended up inspiring his latest film VICKIE CRISTINA BARCELONA.
