Review of Melinda and Melinda (2004) by Astley C — 04 Feb 2010
First and foremost, Radha Mitchell does a wonderful job playing two versions of the titular character. Melinda and Melinda explores how a particular chain of events can be interpreted in two manners; tragic and comic.
While an interesting premise, the tragic segment seems to have been thought out more deeply as opposed to the comic one. The plot is more riveting, there's more focus on Melinda, and the ending holds much better against its counterpart's.
The movie could have been much more consistent throughout had it been edited to feature both sides of the story more often, instead of letting one play on for a while before making a switch. Overall, an interesting but rather mixed Woody Allen effort.
