Review of Melinda and Melinda (2004) by Drew W — 27 Nov 2010
I thought it was funny that someone asked me if this was a "comedy or a tragedy" after I saw it back in 2005. No other director I can think of has more of a right to make a film about the duality of comedy and tragedy.
Allen's films are almost always some poignant mixture of the two. It's interesting to see the progression of the acting in his films over the years. Some of the characters here are excellent, but others do not give good performances.
This is a very enjoyable and interesting film. The Midwest comments would rarely be found outside of NYC snooty conversations in reality and a Woody Allen film. The tick in the hospital scene is spectacular.
Only in a Woody Allen film. Great ending as well.
