Review of Melancholia (2011) by James I — 05 Jul 2012
Another film put together by a director that obviously thinks more of himself and of his work than he really should... the fact that his name appears over the films opening title in a larger and more opposing font, let's you know this from the get-go...
A very interesting idea for a film that is wasted on the director's odd, long-winded approach packed with metaphors for depression and starring a cast of characters you don't really care about.
Had the film been shortened by 50 minutes, and the story possibly fleshed out a bit, this could have been a winner.
On the plus side, The film does have some vert nice visuals and is quite beautifully shot - definitely worth a star. And we get many good shots of Kirsten Dunst's boobs, which is also worth a star.
