"Dad says there's nothing to do then. Nowhere to hide.".
Intense performances from all the cast, with the beautiful music of Wagner's opera Reistan and Isolde makes for a haunting filmic experience, which begins with the end of the world as the planet Melancholia collides with the Earth. That pretty much sets the tone for the film - human existence is pointless, as EVERYTHING in the world and all it's history will be destroyed.
An unforgettable piece of work from Lars Von Trier, the opening 10 minutes are worth watching purely for their artistic merit, slow motion high contrast shots of the Earths final moments, mankind and it's animals.
There were a few similarities to my favourite Lars Von Trier film Festen during the wedding due to the family feuds. Highly recommended, just make sure you have no knives in your vicinity.
