Review of Melancholia (2011) by Ryan G — 27 Sep 2012
This film may be about depression, or the inevitable, or what we do in the face of the inevitable. Melancholia is all over the place in every way imaginable (Segments feel like they are being shot through a cell phone, so there is inconsistent camerawork as well).
Kirsten Dunst's performance is truly remarkable, the acting stands tall with all the beautiful images. But ultimately Melancholia is confusing and somewhat annoying, I was left scratching my head not knowing if I had just wasted my time, or had seen something extraordinary.
