One hell of a step up from The Tree of Life, a film to which Melancholia will draw comparisons based on the first ten minutes. However, though sometimes the style feels a little pretentious, it's still fascinating.

It's a psychological disaster movie. How many of those can you say exist? Though, it's much more psychological...and does a fantastic job of depicting major depressive episodes. Kirsten Dunst hands in a career-defining performance that will completely change the way you see her as an actress.

One of the best depictions of a severely depressed character I've seen on film. Plus, her arc and watching her interactions based on the circumstances are fascinating and really does give the viewer a good feel on what it's like to be depressed in celebratory or disastrous situations.
