Review of Melancholia (2011) by Niloo R — 30 Mar 2013
A very interesting film - so far from what I expected it would be. as I was watching this film I found myself inspired by how visually stunning it was - I definitely want to make a film that looks like this at some point in my career.
I think the film became much more engaging and had a much more unique premise in the second half. the first have was still interesting in it's own right, but also a little infuriating because the lead character's actions had no basis.
however, the second half of the film helped illustrate that she was somewhat possessed and saw the world differently, which I guess could justify her behaviour in the first half. it was definitely a raw, unnerving experience that stays with you, as most lars von trier films do.
