Review of Melancholia (2011) by Brett H — 05 Apr 2013
Melancholia is half of an interesting film with striking imagery and a terrific cast. The problem is that Von Trier loves to plod along and make sitting through his films excruciatingly boring you just want it to end.
I very much enjoyed the first half, but once the wedding is over the film hits a dead end. The last shot is beautiful but I feel Von Trier didn't go far enough (given his visual capabilities).
