There are certain scenes of this film that made me melt, showcasing the obvious directorial masterwork Lars Von Trier has become known for. Being my first experience with Von Trier, Melancholia has certainly ignited an interest in seeking out the directors other films. However, did it really need to be this long? I found myself drifting in and out of the film during certain scenes, losing interest at quite a few moments. This could just be my lack of personal experience, or my lack of exposure to many art house type films, but it's something I felt I should address anyways. Kirsten Dunst has accepted her Melencholia while Charlotte Gainsbourg has tried to fight it. Got it,.

Gripes aside, which may make me look ignorant, I still think this is a very well made film. I cannot deny the thematic and directorial expertise, meticulously found throughout the film.
