Review of Melancholia (2011) by Ken K — 16 Jul 2012
I guess it would be the ultimate curse to be able to sense impending doom even while others can not and all the while surrounded by wealth and beauty. This was the fate of Kirsti Dunst in her finest performance to date.
Not easy to watch and certainly not a feel good movie, I found myself being more captivated by each passing, hard to figure out event. I have got to get this one on blu ray. Some truly beautiful scenes and power not possessed by many films.
The ending truly left me breathless and I am sure the theme will linger long into the weeks to come. I would call it an "Experience" that uncovers the frailty of human existence and the precarious place we hold in an ever changing universe.
See it by all means but do not expect either pure drama or straight science fiction. It is neither and both in every scene. Ken K.
