Review of Melancholia (2011) by Frances H — 25 Feb 2014
In a word-boring. Worse than Tree of Life, which at least had some good cinematography and some lyrically nostalgic views of childhood, which were idyllically remembered. These characters were just downright loopy and self involved .
The bride who screws a complete stranger on her wedding night, the mother who makes a scene at her daughter's wedding and the selfish husband who commits suicide when he realizes the world is ending rather than stay to comfort his wife and child.
What schmucks! If you are going to die, why not do it clasped in the arms of the people you love? I really liked Dogville and Manderlay, so I expected better than this from Lars von Trier.
