Review of Megan Leavey (2017) by Daniel F — 29 May 2017
Powerful movie which defies the usual cliches couched in political innuendo. This movie breaks the Hollywood mold so all cynics out there can sit back and relax and enjoy a war movie/love story which is not political, not depressing, informative and actually, quite uplifting.
It will appeal to men and women, alike, but if you are a lover of animals, it will resonate with you unlike anything you have seen in recent years. Two veterans texted me tonight after seeing the free screening provided this week to those with military ID and they said that they had wanted to dislike it but could not because it defied their every expectation and was fair, balanced, gripping and fast-paced without seeming rushed.
I'm not a professional reviewer and this is the first review I've ever posted, but I truly believe that this movie is not one to miss. Megan Leavey served on the front lines of the battlefield while the media stateside was reporting that no women were serving in the forefront of combat, which is even more ironic to those who see Kate Mara in action playing Corporal Leavey.
To say that I highly recommend this movie would be an understatement.
