Dreamworks is struggling to maintain quality with alternative projects beyond Shrek, an already ruined franchise, and Kung Fu Panda as their only reliable resources. Megamind is in the center of the quality spectrum. How funny it is that one of the messages in the film is to not judge a book by its cover, and I gotta confess that I purposely skipped watching this film because of how ugly it looked at first glance (I still insist that the characters look ugly; all of them).

Yet, Megamind does not fail at surpassing expectations with a remarkable 3D animation quality and, once again the overused yet equally fun technique employed recently: a varied "cool" soundtrack that appeals for the generations of both the children and their parents. It reverses the preconceived concepts we have about heroes and villains, and about good and evil, and that is its smartest twist; the line between them is indeed thin. As trivial as it may sound, people are judged based on the merits of their actions even if it is impossible to make a completely objective judgmental analysis of their backgrounds, which we do not have access to.

It was not a waste of time. Keep the efforts coming, but do not give us another Monsters vs. Aliens unless you pay proper tribute or make a creative, challenging spoof.

59/100.
