Review of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (2009) by Ted B — 04 Apr 2010
Absurd plot: CHECK!
Woeful script: CHECK!
Unknown cast: CHECK!
Abysmal acting: CHECK!
Pathetic special effects: CHECK!
So bad it's good?: CHECK!
This film is typical of The Asylum's output of low budget mockbusters. With a largely unknown cast, Lorenzo Lamas being the only actor many may recognize other than 80s singing star Deborah Harry, the clunky dialogue is read out in one of two ways... Wooden with no emotion or chewing the scenery!
It's quite obvious where this movie spent most of it's budget... The stock underwater footage, because it damn sure wasn't on the effects. Both the shark and octopus looked low rent underwater but when they appear topside it's just laughable. The big fight scene at the end seemed to consist of the same four or five shots recycled in a different order.
So why the three star rating? Well I just love me some awful B movies, simple as that. This film made me laugh out loud and I was thoroughly entertained for the entire movie (not exactly sure what that says about me) and really, what else would you expect from a movie titled Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus?
