Review of Mega Python vs. Gatoroid (2011) by Helena O — 07 Sep 2012
I'm all for cheesy flicks and I love giant monster movies. Add a gimmic like 2 80s pop stars and this film should have been pure gold. Instead all we get is lead. As expected the story was lame and made little sense, the acting was terrible and the film just looked cheap... but those are forgiveable with these types of films to a degree. They often help the camp factor. The problems I had with this film were... the characters were annoying as hell. The monsters were just cheap and boring. If you want to make a budget monster movie, work within your means. Don't use multiple bad CG shots over and over. Live in the less is more camp and make the writing better. The continuity errors are also way worse than should be possible. I ran out of fingers and toes just trying to keep track.
Luckily, Mega Python vs Gatoroid (gators on steroids, get it?) does have a few decent kill moments and the gore level is higher than you might expect from such a lame film otherwise.
Unfortunately, there isn't enough of it, it isn't very good and the rest of the aspects of the movie just plain suck.
This film will more likely give you lead poisoning than enjoyment but if you are adventurous, don't say I didn't warn you first.
