Review of Meet the Spartans (2008) by Mikea — 29 Aug 2008
I went to see this after being told it was meant to be pretty funny, knowing absolutely nothing about the film except it was a parody of The 300. Which sounded like it could be a pretty good idea! GOD that was a mistake.
Never AGAIN. It clunked along from unfunny joke to obvious pop culture reference, never once approaching anything remotely resembling humour. Which wouldn't be so bad if the jokes weren't so obviously stitched in! The entire film read like a sketch show gone wrong, like not a moment could go by without some "wacky" reference being ploughed into our faces.
Humour works best when it's integrated into the film but, amazingly, here it serves to make it even MORE unfunny and distracting. Meet The Spartans is, easily, the worst film I have ever seen and probably ever will see, and there's no reason for anyone to want to watch it again.
Come on. Let's forget this film ever existed. We can do it, guys.
