Review of Meet the Robinsons (2007) by Warren S — 15 Jun 2010

This movie is utter crap, full of characters who are by turns bland and pitiful but never sympathetic. There is a "utopian" future world that is really just creepy and unsettling, there are plot holes galore, there is wanton insulting of the audience's intelligence (yes, even if the audience in question is made up of children) with tyrannosaurs that become friendly when exposed to the Power of Familial Love, established laws of time travel that are then broken repeatedly, and too many hurricanes of insufferably terrible puns to count. What a mess.

On the plus side, DOR-15 is undoubtedly the most awesome piece of fictional headgear ever dreamed of, and I found her industrial smog-covered apocalyptic machine world to be far less uncanny than the "good" future. She provides all the genuine scares and the setups for the only funny jokes in the movie, single-handedly making the film somewhat enjoyable (no easy task) so my advice is to watch the bits with DOR-15 and skip through the rest. Trust me, the other parts will only make the film more confusing.
