Review of Meet the Robinsons (2007) by Frisby 2 — 30 Aug 2011
This is the second worst Disney movie have ever seen. The first being "Chicken Little".
When I saw the commercials to this movie, I had no interest in watching it, & it looked like crap. Boy was I right. This movie's story is boring, short, & almost unoriginal, the characters all look like rejected Pixar models, & the movie in general is stupid.
This is exactly why Disney should stick with their 2D films. The only CGI movie they made that was a piece of Disney genius was Tangled, everything else was nothing but crap. If the guys in the Disney company who actually thought they were better off doing CGI, then those guys should be fired.
Cast/Acting: The only actor in this movie I can recognize is Jordan Fry (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory [the new one]), everyone else is a no-name, forgettable or a miscast. Yes, that includes Tom Kenny (Spongebob), who made himself look like a fool in this movie. The acting was ok, not too great, but it's overshadowed by the other flaws this movie has.
Characters: I did not like any of the characters in this movie. The characters are not even creative in both portrayal or design. As stated above, the characters all look like some rejected Pixar models, & some Mattel Barbie doll rip-offs; none of the characters in this movie had a Disney-esque style to them. Also, most of these characters have no logic; such as the one dad character who's married & had kids with a HAND PUPPET! Does that make any sense to you? And don't get me started on the villain of this movie. The main villain of this movie is supposed to be the Bowlerhat Guy, but is he the villain? Well, not really, instead it's the hat he wears that is more of a villain than he is. Oh, but I'm not even getting started.
Bowlerhat Guy is not only a completely stupid villain that makes Prince John & Gargamel look like Michael Myers, but he is also an incompetent & useless one for that matter. He is as menacing & threatening as a Deku Stick. The hat he wears is far more menacing than him, even though the hat isn't even that great of a villain to begin with. Whatever brain this villain had as a child in the movie isn't there anymore.
Plot/Story: It's your typical 'time travel to prevent something dangerous from happening' plot, only this movie doesn't do justice to that formula. In fact, this movie is almost illogical. I know I like a movie that is fictional, but this movie didn't cut the cake for me. The plot is too simple, & the story is completely weak. Not to mention that the whole problem of the movie could have been simply resolved by helping that little boy known as the "Bowlerhat Guy" in the future in the past, & trust me, that's not his fault. Actually, now that I bring that up, the whole movie's chaos & problem is all Lewis' fault.
Animation: It's an improvement from the crapfest "Chicken Little", but even so,, that's not saying much for this movie. It almost tried to be both a 2D style of film, animation wise, but CGI visually. Most of the characters moved realistically, I'll give it that, but the animation is let down by how forgettable it is. The visuals aren't all too impressive either. Sure, there are less than a handful of nice ones, but even so, they're not worth bringing up or talking about.
So all in all, I really hated this movie. I feel like I'm the only one who hated this movie as well as "Bolt". This movie barely has any redeeming features to it. The only scene in this movie I can say I actually "liked" has to be when Lewis is taken to his past when his mother drops him off at the orphanage.
