Review of Meet the Mormons (2014) by Deb K — 13 Oct 2014
I really liked this movie because not everyone is a snobby critic, and as the beginning of the film showed, a lot of people don't know hardly anything about who Mormons are or what their lives are about.
This demystifies it a little. If all you see are stupid shows like "Big Love" or "Sister Wives" then this movie shows you have no real concept of who most Mormons are. I like that they clear up the fact that they are Christians.
Some Christian folks of other denominations, (like Mike Huckabee in his political campaign did), stay far away from Mormons because they are afraid of being associated with non-Christians. That was myth clearly dispelled and shows that Mormons don't have horns, Mormon women aren't just baby-making machines chained to the house, and that Mormons are normal people just like any one else who have found something meaningful in their lives.
I liked it. Controversy doesn't make a movie good. The message is what makes a movie truly good. This one had a great, uplifting message. I didn't give it 5 stars, only because I would have liked to see a Mormon person smacking some of the stupid people in the movie that had no clue.
Explosions might have been cool, too... Just kidding.
