Review of Meet the Mormons (2014) by Mdmcghie — 10 Oct 2014
To put it bluntly, the main reason that critics are trying to convince you not to see this movie is because it was produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they know that anyone who sees it will gain a better understanding of the good influence that Mormons have in their communities. I took my family to see Meet the Mormons last night and we loved it! In fact, we're going back the the theater on Monday night to see it again with some friends.
The movie profiles the lives of six devoted Mormons (four of whom are converts to the Church). They have very diverse backgrounds and life experiences, but they share a common devotion to God and a commitment to serve those around them. Instead of focusing on the LDS Church's doctrinal teachings, the movie explores how each person's beliefs influence how they conduct their lives. It corrects common misconceptions about Mormons that are often perpetuated by the popular culture (including movie critics).
Is it worth the ticket price (net proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross) to see Meet the Mormons? Absolutely! If you want to be inspired, go see this movie. This will likely be the most uplifting movie that you see all year.
