Review of Meet the Feebles (1989) by Nelson L — 11 Aug 2007
Well. What can I say about Meet the Feebles that hasn't already been said? Let's recap the story before I go into the emotional scars it gave me. Well, the overall story involves the behind the scenes affairs of a group of puppets putting together a family variety show.
As they audition, and warm up their varying acts, we get to know each character more and more. The highlights of which include a crack addicted knife-throwing lizard who happens to be a vietnam veteran, a rat-manager with a penchant for underground dungeon porn, an elephant denying responsibility for his half-chicken love child, another elephant looking creature who enjoys the bouquet of undergarments and eventually stumbles into the Rat-manager's pornography business, a sex-addicted rabbit who slowly dies from an STD referred to as "the big one", a shit-eating fly, an innocent, charming, naive hedgehog, a jaded fox (who is awesome by the way), a Hippo who goes insane, and a plethora of other characters who have equally sick and twisted stories.
Now then, although admired for its witty writing, satire, and direction...upon first viewing, the only thing I will give it credit for is its amazing puppetry, and its direction. I'm going to have to force myself to sit through it again and really watch it for the story, because upon first glance, it is not very good.
I admire the movie for most likely being the only film in cinema history to have a Hippo walk in on a Cat giving a Walrus a blow job. For that I applaud you. For the graphic sex scenes, gore, and violence, I salute you.
..even though my mind's eye will never be clean again.
