Review of Meet the Feebles (1989) by Donovan D — 16 Feb 2008
Before his widespread acclaim and financial success as the director of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and King Kong, Peter Jackson was more well known for schlocky B-movies known for gross-out comedy and violence.
Of these films, Meet the Feebles is probably the least entertaining and most incoherent. While Bad Taste has a low budget charm ("Bastards! Bastards!") and Brain Dead featured one of the most brilliantly over-the-top scenes of carnage ("Party's Over!"), Meet the Feebles to me felt more like a long, bad and disturbing joke that wasn't really engaging or funny.
The tagline 'Muppets of Crack' is an accurate description of this film, but its a lot less interesting than that combination sounds. For fans of early Peter Jackson this will probably still be required viewing, but for neophytes Bad Taste and Brain Dead are much more essential.
