Review of Meet the Feebles (1989) by Chris W — 14 Feb 2011
Peter Jackson's "Meet the Feebles" is definitely like watching The Muppet Show while doing drugs. If you haven't watched at least "Brain Dead" or an early Jackson film, don't bother with this one. "Meet the Feebles" is not for the timid or for the casual Muppet fan. It's a very dark and twisted film that really doesn't sugar-coat ANYTHING. I'm surprised it's an R rated movie with all the absolute depravity and craziness that's shown. I'm also surprised to say that all of the madness-inducing story lines somehow reach a climax by the end--it's Peter Jackson directing after all.
If The Muppets strived to bring out the positive and satirical humor of life, "Meet the Feebles" exists to do the opposite. It's a film that exposes the underbelly of the puppet world... if you can imagine that... I'd be lying if I didn't say it's an interesting concept, but definitely not one that everyone will enjoy.
I'm one for some crazy and weird films, but heed my warning on this one. If you're thinking that things will be toned down just because of the R rating... YOU'RE WRONG! This movie is a head trip of the most demented kind. It's a wonder even I sat through it!
If you're wondering what a creepy puppet movie with plenty of debauchery looks like... look no further than "Meet the Feebles".
Only recommended for the morbidly curious.
