Review of Meet Monica Velour (2010) by Tanvir M — 30 Nov 2011
A different look at Kim Cattrall and she hits it on the head. Wonderful job done but sadly, that is all this film as to offer. Dustin Ingram isn't really bad but he just isn't very good. He almost acts like he could be Napolean Dynamite's cousin in another state.
The plot is average at best, the writing is not strong enough to camouflage the lack of interest you should be developing for the main characters. This should have been more engaging but for some reason, it isn't.
Hard to explain since the topic is intriguing and Cattrall's performance is rather good. The supporting cast is decent. Brian Dennehy is strong and underutilized in my opinion and Keith David is used rather well in an understated role, which is no easy task with him and his commanding voice and presence on screen.
But even they cannot save the slow moving parts that dominate too much of the movie. A slow view is what this film is at heart.
