Review of Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) by Ben C — 11 Dec 2010
This is quite an achievement. You take Judy Garland and film her singing her little heart out against a gorgeously coloured turn-of-the-century backdrop - and yet somehow you end up with an insipid, uninvolving movie like this one.
"The Trolley Song" apart, none of the musical numbers have any punch, and the story itself lacks any kind of dramatic tension. It's all very pretty - and all very twee.
