Before supernatural romances had women falling for vampires, werewolves, wizards and what-all else, this movie trumped them all by having death - walking the earth in human form - fall in love with a dying man's daughter.
Anthony Hopkins is superb. The only sticking point would be the inconsistent characterization of death as a human. Otherwise it strikes all the right emotional notes.
