Review of Meet Joe Black (1998) by Denver R — 07 Apr 2014
Despite a handful of fine performances and an intriguing premise, "Meet Joe Black" is an issue-filled venture. For one thing, it's drastically too long. It has way too much time to work with and very few events to fill in the cracks with.
Secondly, it takes itself too seriously. It's one thing to have a promising story. It's a totally different thing to portray it as something unforgettable... and unconvincingly. In short, the screen talent was exceptional.
The script and directing, not so much.
