Review of Meet Dave (2008) by Colin C — 28 Dec 2008
You know Eddie Murphy -- most of the time deservedly -- gets a bad rap for his movies unless he's voicing a certain donkey. Meet Dave was met this summer with lukewarm reviews and box office. Honestly it didn't deserve either.
Is it forgettabe? Yes. Do some of the jokes fall flat? Yes. Did I wonder why Eddie's Captain sounded like he had a stick up his ass? Yes. Is it as bad as critics said? Hell no. Despite its obvious flaws Meet Dave is a fun, special effects-laden romp that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Eddie gets to do what Eddie does best -- which is playing multiple characters. This time the miniature Captain of a space ship which looks like him. Gabrielle Union is once again easy on the eyes and offers nice support as Number 3 on Eddie's ship.
And what can I say about Elizabeth Banks? So don't dismiss this one when you're ordering your Netflix or going to the video club. I met Dave and he's all right! Three Ball Point Pens.
