Review of Meet Dave (2008) by Lauren H — 01 Jan 2009
What was Eddie Murphy thinking when he decided to do this humdrum of a film? .
It is an improvement on his latest offering, Norbit, but only just. .
Meet Dave is the story of little aliens landing on Earth in a spaceship designed as a human to help them blend in to the surroundings and interact with other humans. Whilst this may sound like the premises for an opportunity to provide creative and humorous situations, the film unfortunately relies on using a sort of slapstick comedy approach. Because of this the experience of watching this film will leave you wondering why you chose to sit through it in the first place. .
Not only is the comedic side of the film a deterrent, but the plot is predictable and whatever pieces of humour there are a few and far between. The special effects are also second rate when you consider what would have been available for use..
The cast also appear as if they have been forced into this film as they provide lacklustre performances and seem uninterested in its entire concept..
Meet Dave is a film to steer clear of unless you are someone who enjoys watching people pulling faces and performing juvenile comedy (even then you will slowly begin to realise that there are better-quality films you could be watching) .
