Review of Meet Dave (2008) by Hanna Zyrille P — 14 Mar 2011
A perfect family film with basic humor, also childish and predictable and it has a certain charm. Meet Dave alone may not radically change the course of Eddie Murphy's drooping career. Aside from some unnecessarily crude stereotypes, Eddie Murphy's least-painful comedy in years has a certain peculiar charm. Aimed squarely at the same family audiences that flocked to Murphy's "Doctor Dolittle" comedies, this is a lightly amusing and surprisingly sweet Fox release. Meet Dave isn't great, but it's good enough. And it proves once again that Murphy can do anything - even a PG comedy in which he isn't a donkey. Dumbfoundingly erratic, for the most part, but smart and funny from time to time.
VERDICT: "Matinée" - (Mixed reaction). These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says to pay matinée prices to see at a theatre or buy an ex rental or a cheap price the DVD to own.
