Review of Meek's Cutoff (2011) by Popi P — 14 Sep 2010
Indie and minimalist filmmaker Reichardt goes back in time to Oregon in 1845 following a group of three families and their guide Stephen Meek across the desert. The desert itself is seemingly endless and trust in Meek begins to wane, but then there is the arrival of a mysterious lone Native American who may prove to be their salvation or death.
Wonderfully orchestrated by director Reichardt in a 1.33:1 frame with natural performances by all the actors - Bruce Greenwood in nearly unrecognizable as Meek. Very well done, but just keep in mind, this film does move very slowly.
