Review of Meek's Cutoff (2011) by Judy M — 17 Dec 2011
I've only seen two of Reichardt's films (this along with 'Wendy and Lucy') but my goodness this is a serious talent that is making films like no one else. This entire cast is fantastic, Rod Rondeaux as the Indian is really impressive.
His quiet, observing behavior never lets you know quite what he's thinking, its both terrifying and maddeningly frustrating. The opening scene is brilliant in how quick and sudden it throws you into these people's journey.
Its a slow film but the way it shot, the landscapes and how these people handle the trip across the Cascades builds with tension and poignancy.
