Review of Meek's Cutoff (2011) by Shawn M — 07 Apr 2012
Having no idea what to expect from this film, I bought a beer at E Street Cinema expecting to enjoy my drink and then pass out, or enjoy the movie in addition to imbibing. About ten minutes into the plot, I was hooked and enjoyed the suspense and character development (especially Michelle Williams' character).
She didn't steal the show with her acting but I have to admit I felt she played her part better than anyone else on screen. I would have liked to have known just a little more background on the characters to gain emotional buy-in, and I felt like the story was mildly unrealistic but palatable.
In the end, I felt like the ending was exactly what you needed although I imagine that the afraid fairy-tale-ending audience will want their money back. So, four stars and a recommendation for the film buff community.
Oh, and don't leave home without a map!
