Review of Medium Cool (1969) by Bill C — 01 Jun 2013
Available on BRD from The Criterion Collection.
44 years after the fact we pretty much need a set of instructions to watch this film. However, blueprints exist and having done our homework we are astonished by Haskell Wexler's revolutionary juxtaposition of actual history, real-time unstaged footage and clever political theatre within theatre. Only when we accept responsibility for examining the context of this film can we understand what a remarkable achievement Wexler and his team have delivered.
Harold Blankenship as the young Harold blurs fact and fiction in a remarkable performance; details of this young actors participation are revealed in the compelling BRD supplements.
