Review of Medicine Man (1992) by Matthew L — 29 Jan 2008
It's an engaging story and a premise that begs your attention. And yet this one never truly manages to become what it should be. It's not quite as emotionally gripping as it could be and although the story hits you, it's a premise that should have hit harder.
That said, the film still gets it done on some level. It follows one man's search for a cure in a world being ravaged by cancer. He's close enough to touch it, but just can't seem to hang on. That eventually leads to his determined journey through the Rain Forests to redeem his vision, done so with the added weight of some lasting images of a people group struggling to survive. The movie is decent, but just never great.
