Review of Mechanic: Resurrection (2016) by Andrew M — 24 Aug 2016
This is a pretty basic Jason Statham film, in that there are several decent action set pieces surrounded by padding... I mean, a loosely connected series of events to get the characters where they need to be. Statham is playing his usual action character, but he at least has enough charisma to keep doing that. Everyone else is just kinda there, with Alba barely above the average damsel in distress, and Yeoh being utterly wasted. At least Jones got a few laughs and seems to be enjoying his small role. The cinematography's a mixed bag, with some gorgeous scenery shots mixed in with some very obvious sets and rather clunky close ups for dialog. Speaking of dialog, man is there some needless exposition.
There's enough here for someone to get an action fix, but it's utterly forgettable afterwards.
