Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Robert B — 02 Aug 2009
Classic gem right here. Martin gets really raw with this one and takes it to the streets with gritty drama and dialogue. Keitel is great as always, but De Niro in a supporting role here is electrifying.
Love the soundtrack as well. Favorite scenes are when De Niro is first introduced (Jumpin Jack Flash starts playing and he walks in with women on each arm with a care free attitude), the mook scene is classic with the dialogue and the ensuing fight scene, and the ending scene where De Niro refuses to pay his debt is explosive with De Niro at his best.
