Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Codie E — 17 May 2009
Electrifying; the handheld camera, pop and operatic soundtrack and grimy production design set this up as an authentic look at life on New York streets (although mainly filmed in LA). Add to this a pair of brilliant characters in Charlie, with Harvey Keitel portraying his ambition and loyalty expertly, and Robert De Niro's riviting and reckless Johnny Boy.
Hugely influencial.
