Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Ifiok O — 10 Mar 2010
Consider this film as the blueprint Martin Scorcese would later utilize for his later films that were in this particular genre. Focusing more on character rather than plot, this film focuses more on the inner struggles of Keitel's character, as he comes to grips with having a reckless friend in trouble with loan sharks, and the guilt he feels from his lifestyle.
While it's definitely not a polished film, there scenes of potential in the first of many De Niro/Scorcese collaborations.
