'Mean Streets' bleeds European cinema so much I cannot even begin to list examples, let's just say that essentially every 'ground-breaking' scene we have seen countless times in Godard.
As for Marty's movie, it's a fun, bloody, energetic picture with a cast that delivers some of their best performances. It is a classic, it is revolutionary, Scorsese is his own talent and it shines in every frame - he loves film so much he makes movies as though he was getting ready to debate the viewer.
Scorsese loves movies and it shows in every scene so by default, I reluctantly suppose, the viewer will love 'Mean Streets'.
