Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Kevin D — 18 Jun 2009
One of the best American films of the decade. Scorsese makes use of long and slow tracking shots (a technique he would later master) and a soundtrack full of classic tunes and opera (for which he paid half the budget of the film for) to tell this story of crime on the streets of New York city.
Mean Streets marked the emergence of director Martin Scorsese and actor Robert DeNiro as masters of their respective crafts.
