Review of Mean Girls 2 (2011) by Kc P — 11 Nov 2011
Ok so being a huge fan of the first one I just had to rent this, being that it is a direct-to-video feature. Which makes me the premeire. But I dont even know where to start on this one; The trick here is obvious: dont compare it to the first one because you will see it as a major dissapointment.
With that out of the way the movie really is not all that bad. First & foremost let me state the obvious, it is NOT written by Tina Fey so please don't expect all the raw, dark, racial-ethnic, and politically incorect humor we saw on the first one.
Instead see this for what it truly is- a PG-13 teen comedy. The jokes here are not really funny in fact they are very lame and pretty much predicable for the entire 96 minutes of the movie. You will have see the return of principal Duvall aka Tim Meadows and the return of the plastics.
The plastics here are played by an entire whole new cast, most of which are, virtual unknowns to me. This made realize just how good and talently Rachel McAdams and Lindsay Lohan really were back in the days.
Anyhow the movie has some good highlights. The plot here takes on a whole new spin, whereby Jo, the protagonist never joins the plastics, instead she forms her own group the Anti-Plastics, and turns the movie into an all out girl on girl mayhem war.
In addition to this she runs into a girl who is the joke and target of the school bullies and plastics. Jo then is paid a Handsome amount of cash by this girl's father. In the end she gives the money back and chooses the friendship over money but this comes at a price.
I think you know where this one ends. The movie does have moments where you want to jerk a tear but then that is outshadowed by totally tasteless and pointless humor later on. I like sequels. But this one just doesnt have in it to be worthy of one.
