Review of Mean Creek (2004) by Joseph E — 21 Jun 2010
If you haven't seen the trailer for this movie before watching it, do yourself a favour and avoid it. "Mean Creek" is predictable enough as it is, without the revealing-the-entire-plot trailer ruining it even more for you.
Having said that, I don't really mind that I knew exactly what would happen half way through this movie. It was creepy, really well directed, and I couldn't look away from it the entire hour and a half.
Rory Culkin (an underrated favourite of mine) is turning out to be quite the indie-darling, like his brother Kieran (See: Igby Goes Down). There's something about Rory Culkin that I don't really know how to describe.
He has this presence, no matter what character he plays, that makes you feel like you have no idea what he will do next or what he's thinking. Anyway what I'm getting at is that Mean Creek is a decent thriller/drama about a group of kids taking revenge way too far and having to deal with the consequences.
